Couple Getaways - N - Niagara on the Lake

Niagara-on-the-Lake is a favorite stop when hubby and I are in Canada.

We had no idea how much we'd enjoy Niagara on the Lake. But it's a quiet respite after all the touristy and busy attractions of Niagara Falls. We prefer to stay in St. Catharines, which is only a short drive to NOTL. Our first time there, we stopped in for a twilight tasting at Hillebrande. Hands down their Trius vintage is one of the best wines ever. There are plenty of wineries to stop in, and believe me we enjoyed the lot of them. There are also several incredible restaurants, Hillebrande being one of them.

While there we also drove around the historic homes, took in The Mystery of Edwin Drood at the Royal George Theater, and enjoyed dessert at the Shaw Cafe.

All throughout April I'll be posting about Couple Getaways as part of the A-Z Challenge. I hope you'll stop by for the next destination! No passport necessary ;)

Went to university in St.C. Great city.
Love Niagara on the Lake. In the spring and summer it is spectacular with its flowers. Very romantic for holding hands and walking with someone you love.
Then there is always Niagara Falls - fun, fun, fun.
Nice post about some place dear to my heart.

I live in Western New York and go to NOTL pretty often. Absolutely love it there. Did a writing retreat at a B&B there in 2009 and wrote 19k in two and a half days!

Although I am from western Canada, been there and done that, enjoyed it, bought my friends the g-strings...er, t-shirts.

The winery is very, very cool.

Have you been on the New York side?

I have friends in St Cath's, and when I'm staying with them, we usually go to NOTL several times. Lovely little town, and the nearby Fort George is very interesting.
